I’m surprised it took this long. According to wwd.com, Farouk Systems (maker of the popular CHI flat iron) is launching the first touch screen blow dryer.
The blow dryer will feature a three inch, four color LCD touch screen display, three navigation tools and sliding scales, for speed, temperature and to activate the appliance’s ionizing feature.
To help take the guess work out of which setting to choose, users will be able to select their hair type on the screen which will release just the right amount of ions. And to make it even easier, the dryer will remember your settings. Pretty cool, huh?
Not only is it high on innovation, it also packs an impressive 1,800 watts of power to cut drying time in half.
The CHI Touch Screen Dryer will make it’s debut on Celebrity Apprentice May 6 and retails for $199 and will be available for purchase at Ulta, JC Penny, and select salons.

Why? Is the little on/off switch really that difficult to master?
I actually had the opportunity to try one of these out this week and it was an amazing dryer. It’s not so much the touch screen feature (that’s just an added perk!) I’m always the first to critique a gimmick but was very impressed with this dryer! It seemed to make a difference being able to select the hair texture (ionization feature) I had quite a few clients come through yesterday that usually need to be touched up with a flat iron after being blown out and was amazed that that was unnecessary and their hair was significantly softer and shinier that usual. (I typically use the Babyliss Volare which is also a very nice dryer) This Chi is also very quiet for the power and I have always been a fan of their low EMF. The dryer itself is also very light. I think people will have to see/try to believe it but we have a salon full of skeptics that all wanted one by the end of the day. Oh and I sold 2 to clients who could see a big difference in their hair right away!
Thanks for letting us know how it worked for you! I’d love to try it myself!
