Sike. No such thing for me as a 5 minute face. I’ve tried. And it’s usually followed up by a well meaning co-worker asking me if I’m sick or if Rocco kept me up all night. And frankly, who’s going to take beauty advice from someone who looks “haggardly” (<–got that word from my MIL…hey Bonnie!).
So my most basic face takes about 20 minutes (this doesn’t include skin routine), which is a lot different from the full out glam I usually do for the blog. Like I told my friend Jenna (who’s allergic to makeup M-F), I promise one day I will figure out the perfect 5 minute face and post about it. But for now, set the alarm 15 min earlier for a polished everyday makeup look.
Step 1: Prep skin and eyelids with a makeup primer. I have oily skin, so if I want my makeup to last all day, this is a must. I alternate between Hourglass Veil Mineral Makeup Primer or Smashbox Pore Minimizing Foundation Primer. (Not pictured is my eye primer- MAC Ochre Paint Pot)
Step 2: Depending on what I’m doing that day, I apply either a tinted moisturizer for days when I don’t want a lot of coverage or foundation for more coverage. My favorite TM is NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (in shade Cuba) and my favorite foundation right now is Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (shade 153 Golden Honey).
Step 3: Conceal. I love my NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer (shade Custard). It not only conceals but brightens and highlights the area.
Step 4: Set with loose powder.
Step 5: Bronzer. Your face looks “flat” with just one wash of color on it. I like to add some depth with a sweep of bronzer on forehead, cheekbones, and jaw. Sometimes I add a pop of blush on the apples of cheeks for color. Gueralin Terracotta (shade 8) is my absolutely favorite bronzer–no orange tones, smells great, and lasts forever.
Step 6: This is the part that takes me the most time because not only do I have hooded eyes, but I also have a prominent lid, so my features tend to get lost without shadow, mascara and liner. My day to day shadow is from the below custom palette from Bobbi Brown. The first shade, Banana, goes all over the lid and the last shade Velvet Plum goes from lash line to brow bone (I almost never use the middle pink shade).
I line my eyes using Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink. It’s the only liner that doesn’t end up sliding off during the day.
I fill in my brows using Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Dark Brown.
Lastly, I curl my lashes and use L’Oreal Voluminous mascara in Black.
There you have it. Hopefully, you won’t have to stop to put on Paw Patrol, change 2 poopy diapers, and put sneakers on a toddler ninja, while putting on your 20 minute face, thus turning it in to a 40 minute face.
