The Beauty of “Maintenance” Days

My girlfriend Kim said it best when she coined the term “maintenance” days. Those are the days when you have the house to yourself—no kids, husband, or significant other- and you focus on taking care of you.
Even as a young girl, Saturdays were reserved for taming my long and super thick hair. Wet sets (aka roller sets) were my mom’s grooming style of choice for me. After washing and conditioning, my wet hair was set in rollers and I was placed under the dryer for an hour and a half until dry. During that time, I usually read a few magazines (I’ve been reading Vogue since 5th grade) and painted my nails.

Fast forward to now. Between work, family, and social activities, my maintenance days are drastically shortened. My beauty routine looks a little more like this:
• Hair: Instead of going in to the salon for a full base color and highlights, I opt for balayage. The hand painted highlights are started away from the root, so the color still looks good 3 months later with no sign of demarcation.
• Skincare: I monthly facials and alternate using sheet masks to keep my skin glowing and soft.
• Bodycare: I would slather on body lotion after showering while still damp and air dry to really replace the moisture lost after showering. Now, I just use a rich body wash, like Caress® Daily Silk™ to keep my skin silky soft. The fragrance is clean, fresh, and modern – white peach and orange blossom. Heavy perfumes or scents are not necessary.

  1. Oh I love the products with the smell of oranges, this could be a good tip for me from you, must look at it when in a drugstore, thank you.
As for maintenance days – I do not reserve whole days to maintain myself, I just use some products when I see I need it, usually during evenings when I relax or work on some projects but am at home and can look scary with a green mask on my face 😀
