The Nordstrom Beauty Trend Event

Nordstrom Beauty Trend Event, Cherry Hill Mall

Last weekend I got the chance to stop by the Cherry Hill mall for Nordstrom’s Beauty Trend Event. The event is taking place at Nordstrom stores across the nation.

Dozens of beauty experts were on hand to provide one-one-one free consultations, makeovers and discuss the latest trends! Armed with my camera and my sister-in-law, Kristen, we experienced first hand the awesomeness of the Beauty Trend Event (seriously they even had cake pops and a DJ).

Kris is used to being my beauty guinea pig, so she plopped in a chair while Beauty Stylist Nicholas Mancini worked his magic giving her a bronzy night look just in time for the summer. We talked about all things beauty with Nicholas from the importance of a great skin care routine to the universal struggle of reversing the signs of aging and dreaded “man hands”.

Nicolas took care to emphasize Kristen’s features using a Smashbox BB Cream to even out her already perfect “young skin” and a deep purple eyeshadow trio to bring out her brown eyes.

My favorite products used? Le Volume de Chanel mascara in Prune, $30, a gorgeous plum shade and Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in #4, a punch of pink in a glossy finish, $50.

In the end, Nicholas took an already naturally gorgeous Kristen and gave her a hot summer look for a night out. Kristen loved the look so much, she looked past the $50 price tag and went home with her own Phyto-Lip Twist!

New York Fashion Week- Behind the Scenes: Pamella Roland- Hair with Paul Labrecque

We were lucky enough to steal Paul Labrecque away from his styling chair backstage at Pamella Roland’s NYFW Fall 2013 Show to speak with him for a brief moment. In our interview with Paul (click the image above to see!), he tells us all about the look he created for the show and where his inspiration came from.

Paul created a french pleat in the hair by simply pulling the hair back, folding it over and pinning it under itself. (see pictures below) Then the hair was smoothed over with a holding spray and the leather headband was applied to frame the face.

So simple. So elegant. So Pamella Roland.

New York Fashion Week- Behind the Scenes: Makeup for Tracy Reese with Mally Roncal

photo-26 copy

We had the opportunity to go backstage at Tracy Reese’s NYFW show and speak with the always incredible Mally Roncal. She was warm and gracious and broke down her steps in creating her Tracy Reese’s exclusive look. Please click the image above to see our interview with Mally (NOTE: The video is loud and there is a lot of background noise… it’s loud in those tents! Please turn your volume down before playing.)

For Glowing Skin: Mally used her Glow Primer as a base and to create a subtle glow. She topped skin with her Diamond Unpowder which uses a unique moisture delivery system to keep skin looking fresh, fabulous and radiant all day long. Then, to give the skin even more glow, she used her Effortless Airbrush Highlighter on the cheekbones and used her blush Mally’s Baby on the apples of cheeks. Each model finished with her Evercolor Poreless Face Defender to seal in makeup without a cakey finish.

For a Bold Smokey Eye: Mally created an artistic smokey eye. For this, she used the black eyeshadow from her City Chick Smokey Eye Kit in Soho Silver all over the lid. Then, she bent a clean mascara wand to each model’s specific eye shape, before dipping it in her Evercolor Silk Eye Defining System in Jet Black to smudge it out on the ends of eyes.

For “Slept in Lips”: Mally started the look by applying her lipstick in French Kiss on the lips and then continued the rest of the face. Once each model was complete, she used a tissue and dabbed off the excess lipstick, so it looked like the model slept in her lipstick.

For Defined Brows: Mally filled in the eyebrows with her 24/7 Brow Express so they were strong and defined.

“She is the quintessential New York City girl. She’s confident. She’s fierce. Whether she has been out all night with her girlfriends, or just working the night shift, she’s out feeling as fabulous as she did when she left the house. Her skin is healthy, glowing, and artfully undone. The eyes are strong, which are the focus, and heavily smokey.”- Mally Roncal

I would like to extend a giant ‘Thank You’ to Mally, her entire backstage crew for allowing us to be in their faces for so long and her PR team for welcoming us with open arms.

New York Fashion Week- Behind the Scenes: Tracy Reese Nails with Sally Hansen’s Tracylee

Many do not realize how much work goes into a fashion show and when thatfashion show is at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, no detail is overlooked- this includes the statement manicure.

For the Tracy Reese Fall 2013 show, Tracy paired up with Sally Hansen to not only create a signature look, but to release the colors for purchase by the consumer. Tracy’s Sally Hansen collection has three colors: New Wave Blue- teal, Perfectly Poppy- scarlet, and Malbec- aubergine. They will be available where Sally Hansen products are sold, for a limited time, beginning in September 2013.

To create the look, two layers of New Wave Blue (teal) are applied, followed by a thin line on the parameters of the nail with Wedding Glitters (a rich, gold color) created using a very thin nail brush. Follow with a topcoat and you’re finished.

Click on the photo below to see our interview with Traceylee in which she tells us all about the look and inspiration.

Thank you to Tracylee with Sally Hansen for speaking with us (and for being such a rockstar!), to Tracy Reese for allowing us backstage, and to Tracy’s PR team for being so welcoming to us!
