Jeanie Syfu, the genius behind the hair of the Tracy Reese 2013 Fall New York Fashion Week Runway Show, gave us a moment of her time to talk about her approach for the styling for the show and where her inspiration came from. (Click on the image above to see our interview with Jeanie!)

Overall Look: A quintessential  NY look, the hair combines side-swept texture with height at the crown.

Inspiration: A fearless New York girl walking home before dawn after a night out. The look has a modern style with retro roots.

How-To Steps:

  1. Lightly dampen hair and liberally apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse throughout the roots and lengths of the hair for texture and volume.
  2. Flip head upside-down and rought dry with fingers (pulling at the root with fingers until the hair is 90% dry). Use a mason brush to continue drying upside-down by lifting at the roots and smoothing at the ends. TIP: Use your mason brush to lift the roots, but don’t smooth the roots- this will flatten the texture.
  3. Flip hair over when dry and create a “front sweep” by lightly brushing the hair from the front of the crown over to one side diagonally.
  4. Tease the crown of the head for lift. Finish with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.
  5. Apply TRESemmé Fresh Start Color Care Dry Shampoo for texture and pull out pieces for a wispy/undone soft finish.

Katy Perry at Paris Fashion Week, Copycat her look!

20.3.12

Katy Perry was the first to make blue hair cute and sexy and now she’s taken the bold hair trend to a chic new level. Katy was spotted recently sporting a sleek blue updo in Paris at the Yves Saint Laurent Fall/Winter 2012 show for Fashion week. Her super shiny locks paired with the wild blue shade gave her chic bun a funky edge. This pulled back style was accentuated perfectly with a sultry blue eyeshadow and peachy gloss. Her makeup really brought to light her own baby blues, and was ultra sexy.

We were wowed by Katy’s sophisticated look as we are used to the glittery California girl pin-up Perry yet loved every minute of it! Not saying there isn’t a time and place for her usual fun style but she looked absolutely gorgeous and understated (as much as you can be with Blue hair, yet she pulled it off!). I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes the next huge hair trend, the chic blue bun.

Want to copycat Katy’s look? Here’s how:

MAKEUP:

Lets start with Katy’s smoldering smokey eye. To get her look, apply a blue base all over the eye, like the CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast in Blue Bomb or try Buxom’s creamy Stay-There Eyeshadow in Bull Dog, an intense royal blue. Next darken it up a bit with your favorite dark blues or grays in the outer corners and underneath the eye. Try Givenchy’s Le Prisme Mono eyeshadow compact featuring all the blue shades you’ll need. Finish off with plenty of black eyeliner smudged around the lid, both top and bottom and a coat of your blackest mascara.

HAIR:

If you want to give Katy’s blue hair a go without committing to a total blue makeover, take a look at HairExtensions.com where you’ll find tons of temporary color clip-ins from brands like POP and easihair. Once you’ve got your blue clip ins draw all hair up into a high ponytail trying as best you can to smooth out any bumps and secure tightly with elastic. Use a hair donut to create the perfect bun and place it around the base of your ponytail. Begin to wind hair around the donut, smoothing strands to make it as sleek as possible as you completely cover the donut with your hair. Make sure to spray the entire style with hair spray and shine spray for extra sheen.

Now you’re ready to rock it like Ms. Perry on the streets of your neighborhood.

Talk to us! Let us know your thoughts on her smoldering blue look.

2012 Oscar Beauty: How to create Cameron Diaz’s Red Carpet Hair

28.2.12

Cameron Diaz rocked the red carpet at this year’s Academy Awards with her carefree elegance. Apart from her stunning gown, we were eye-ing her knockout hair. We all want to copycat that chic cut and style and now we can create this look ourselves with this exclusive from celebrity hair stylist Lona Vigi.

“It’s modern, sexy, and carefree femininity,” says legendary stylist Lona Vigi of Cameron’s look. To imitate this style grab the latest in Sultra hair tools and get started on this sexy do. First, blow dry your locks with the Sultra Sophisticate Power Dryer, to infuse the maximum in volume and shine. Lona recommends this dryer above all else, saying “I LOVE this dryer–it’s quiet, dries fast, and the ionic and ceramic technology is gentle on Cameron’s bleached locks.” This power dryer contains both ionic and ceramic generators to dry and not fry! It speeds up drying time sealing the cuticle for softer, shinier hair.

Next, Lona straightened and smoothed Cameron’s locks with the Sultra Seductress Curl, Wave & Straight Iron retailing at $210. Lona states, “It’s the perfect tool–so versatile for creating an array of looks!” She used the Seductress to flip up random pieces of Cameron’s hair adding texture while creating a bend in other pieces to generate movement. Then she picked up Sultra’s Bombshell One-inch Rod Curling Iron to create a loose curl in Cameron’s bang.

Simple as that, and you’re all set with your smooth sexy red-carpet hair. Sultra haircare products can be found at Nordstrom and purchased at Nordstrom.com.
