It is no secret that we adore the designer Pamella Roland so when I was asked to come backstage for her Fall 2013 NYFW Runway show, my response was “What time?”! We had a moment to hear Matin Maulawizada for Laura Mercier tell us about the look he created for Pamella’s Fall 2013 Show and where his inspiration came from. Matin, lead makeup artist for this season’s Pamella Roland show, was inspired by the designer’s collection, a visual narrative of the history of the Tzar and Russian Court. He developed a flawless makeup look that translated the simplicity of women’s beauty in tandem with the “opulence of St. Petersburg”.

Pamella always keeps her look so classy and simple, this goes for her hair and makeup too. Click on the image above to see the video.

To create the look:

Flawless Face- A fresh, “no makeup look” was key to balancing the collection’s bold accents

  • First, Matin applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer ($32) to create the perfect canvas for makeup application.
  • Then, depending on the model’s complexion, he used Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Foundation ($50) or Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation ($43) to hydrate and protect the skin.
  • Next, he used Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage ($30) to perfect the skin, concealing any problem areas.
  • He applied Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($35) to set and finish the look.
  • To give the skin a healthy color, Matin brushed Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Color in Blaze ($24) and Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek COlor in Sweet Mandarin ($24) onto the cheekbones.
  • Matin then contoured the apples of the cheeks with the Bronzer Veil from Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Healthy Glow for Face and Cheeks Crème Colour Palette ($48).

Enchanting Eyes- Matin used varying shades of gold to highlight the eyes

  • Matin gently brushed Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Gilded Moonlight ($24) onto the eyelid.
  • He then applied Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Golden Mosaic ($38) to the eyelids, leaving them gleaming with a warm, natural sheen.
  • To complete the eyes, he swept on a coat of Laura Mercier Gold Mascara (created exclusively for the Pamella Roland show), to dramatically lengthen and define the lashes.
  • Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil ($20) was applied to define the models’ eyebrows as needed.

Lustrous Lips- Deep wine lips created a modern look that “tied all the colors together”

  • Matin applied Laura MErcier Lip Silk ($22) to the models’ lips to create a smooth and nourished base.
  • He contoured and shaded the lips using Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Coffee Bean ($20).
  • Adding the final touch, he applied Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Deep Wine ($20) to achieve a bold, modern look.

New York Fashion Week- Behind the Scenes: Makeup for Tracy Reese with Mally Roncal

13.2.13

We had the opportunity to go backstage at Tracy Reese’s NYFW show and speak with the always incredible Mally Roncal. She was warm and gracious and broke down her steps in creating her Tracy Reese’s exclusive look. Please click the image above to see our interview with Mally (NOTE: The video is loud and there is a lot of background noise… it’s loud in those tents! Please turn your volume down before playing.)

For Glowing Skin: Mally used her Glow Primer as a base and to create a subtle glow. She topped skin with her Diamond Unpowder which uses a unique moisture delivery system to keep skin looking fresh, fabulous and radiant all day long. Then, to give the skin even more glow, she used her Effortless Airbrush Highlighter on the cheekbones and used her blush Mally’s Baby on the apples of cheeks. Each model finished with her Evercolor Poreless Face Defender to seal in makeup without a cakey finish.

For a Bold Smokey Eye: Mally created an artistic smokey eye. For this, she used the black eyeshadow from her City Chick Smokey Eye Kit in Soho Silver all over the lid. Then, she bent a clean mascara wand to each model’s specific eye shape, before dipping it in her Evercolor Silk Eye Defining System in Jet Black to smudge it out on the ends of eyes.

For “Slept in Lips”: Mally started the look by applying her lipstick in French Kiss on the lips and then continued the rest of the face. Once each model was complete, she used a tissue and dabbed off the excess lipstick, so it looked like the model slept in her lipstick.

For Defined Brows: Mally filled in the eyebrows with her 24/7 Brow Express so they were strong and defined.

“She is the quintessential New York City girl. She’s confident. She’s fierce. Whether she has been out all night with her girlfriends, or just working the night shift, she’s out feeling as fabulous as she did when she left the house. Her skin is healthy, glowing, and artfully undone. The eyes are strong, which are the focus, and heavily smokey.”- Mally Roncal

I would like to extend a giant ‘Thank You’ to Mally, her entire backstage crew for allowing us to be in their faces for so long and her PR team for welcoming us with open arms.

Favorite Products of the Week- 12/3/12

04.12.12

faves12 3 12 Favorite Products of the Week 12/3/12

As the holiday season approaches, I find myself at the mall more often then usual and because I am a beauty addict, I am often found at the beauty counters! I have included some of my favorite new purchases from this past week, but also some of my favorites from the last couple months.

1) Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup ($36). This. Foundation. Rocks! I tried this only because I had tried on a lipgloss and had no foundation on (a big no no!) and ended up loving it. I have been wearing it almost daily and get so many compliments. One note: If you have dry skin, stay clear of this foundation as it is meant to keep a face from getting oily and this will only look cakey on your skin. I apply this with my Sigma Round Kabuki Brush ($18) and it looks airbrushed. I can wear it from 7:30am- bed with no touch ups. Give it a shot! You may love it just as much as I do!

2) Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lipstick in Stay Coral ($25). This has become my ‘one’ color. You know, the color you can wear with everything. Yesterday, I went to the grocery store in black sweats and a black baseball cap (All black? I’m always in all black! I’m a New Yorker, it’s our wardrobe). Last minute, I decided to put on my foundation (see #1), mascara and run out the door. I made a quick decision to put this lipstick on too and it worked! I usually will not wear lipstick in sweats as it feels overdone, but this was an exception. This is also the same color I wore out to dinner with my girlfriends last week. It’s versatile and I’m in love!

3) Benefit Girl Meets Pearl ($30). I use this as a highlighter on places like my cheekbones, bridge of my nose, inner corners of my eyes and cupids bow. Even with a full coverage, matte foundation, this gives my face a beautiful glow. It soaks right into the skin so there is no residue on top of your foundation. Love using powder on top of all your makeup? This still shows through! It is beautiful in person, but even more beautiful in pictures so I use it on my brides especially. I have tried many illuminating products, but the pink tint to Girl Meets Pearl really meshes well with my skin tone.

4) Smashbox Waterproof Shadow Liner in Metallic Bronze ($22). This is another one of my go-to products. I have blue eyes, so using a bronze on my lids really makes the blue pop (tip for blue eyed babes!) and this liner stays all day. I am a makeup artist, so to say I have a plethora of makeup is an understatement, but I have recently compiled my own kit that is just for me. This liner is in it in many colors! I apply it by drawing a super think line across my lashes and blending up until my whole lid is covered. I then apply mascara… that’s it! It has fantastic pigmentation and makes my eyes pop!

5) Bella Pierre Mineral Foundation ($65). So this powder comes with a hefty price tag, but I have found that it is one that gives me the coverage I need and doesn’t cause breakouts. I use a powder brush and apply this in a circular motion all over my face. I wear this alone on days I just don’t feel like wearing full makeup or on top of my full makeup if I am looking for a completely  full coverage with a matte finish. Bella Pierre is a brand that carries so many fun colors and products, check them out!

6) Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Eye Serum ($55). I am mom of two kids, so sleep is often optional. However, looking like I haven’t slept for a week is never optional. To keep my dark circles and bags at bay, I apply this morning and night. It comes with a dropper and the best way to apply it is: pull the dropper out of the bottle and squeeze its contents back into the bottle. Now, without squeezing the dropper, dip it back in and pull it out. The little drop that is on the tip is all you need for each eye. Seriously! This bottle has lasted me 5 months and isn’t even half gone. Well worth the money if you ask me because it lasts forever and it works!

I hope that you now have some input to get out there and try some of these products if you have been thinking of doing so or if you are just looking for new recommendations. If you try them, let us know how you feel about them!

Thank you for reading, Beauties.
