Half Moon Mani Finished Product Spring Nail Trend: The Color Block Manicure

Thank goodness spring has finally sprung! And with spring comes fresh new mani options! Since I love bright bold colors, a color block half moon manicure is the perfect way to add some pop into my wardrobe this weekend.

Sally Hansen has some great bright color options perfect for your color block mani. Here’s how I created the look:

Color Block Half Moon Mani Spring Nail Trend: The Color Block Manicure

1) Paint nails the color you want the half moon of your manicure to be. Be sure to do the whole nail. I used Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Sun Kissed–a bright orange color. Let nails dry completely for approximately 30 min.

2) Using reinforced tabs to create the half moon shape, apply one to the base of the painted fingernail (I like to rip my tabs in half so they lay flatter).

3) Paint the rest of the nail in your second color choice, being careful not to go over the reinforced tabs. For my contrasting color, I used Sally Hansen’s Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Breezy Blue. I applied two coats and let it dry for about 20 min.

3) Carefully remove the reinforced tabs when nails are completely dry.Top with a clear coat (check out Sally Hansen’s Double Duty—a base and top coat in one).

You can showcase some of your nail art by entering Sally Hansen’s I  Heart Nail Art contest! There are monthly winners until the contes comes to an end in May:

The New Nail Length and Shape That Anyone Can Wear

07.3.13

Despite the heartburn, headaches, leg cramps, and the accidental sneeze/pee combo, pregnancy does have some positive benefits on me physically. My hair has gotten thicker and my nails grow at a rapid rate.

I figured I’d take advantage of my longer nails and try a new shape and length. Usually they are really short and round-square shape. Practical, clean, and modern.

But I’m feeling sassy in this last trimester of pregnancy and while I’m scared of the Rihanna stilleto nail, there’s a modified  more wearable version that’s been seen on the Fall 2013 runways.

Here is some my inspiration photos.

Many do not realize how much work goes into a fashion show and when thatfashion show is at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, no detail is overlooked- this includes the statement manicure.

For the Tracy Reese Fall 2013 show, Tracy paired up with Sally Hansen to not only create a signature look, but to release the colors for purchase by the consumer. Tracy’s Sally Hansen collection has three colors: New Wave Blue- teal, Perfectly Poppy- scarlet, and Malbec- aubergine. They will be available where Sally Hansen products are sold, for a limited time, beginning in September 2013.

To create the look, two layers of New Wave Blue (teal) are applied, followed by a thin line on the parameters of the nail with Wedding Glitters (a rich, gold color) created using a very thin nail brush. Follow with a topcoat and you’re finished.

Products of the Week 2.8.13

I have recently discovered a skincare routine that works for me and has cleared up my skin! I swear to you, everyday I wake up to see that my skin is clearer then the day before, I hear angels signing! Because I have finally found clear skin again, I have been excited to spice up my makeup routine with some fun colors. I will also tell you about a tried-and-true nail product that I cannot live without.

1) Kate Somerville Anti Bac Clearing Lotion. This lotion has 3% Benzoyl Peroxide as the active ingredient. I have tried Benzoyl Peroxide before and had no success, my skin was just dried out. This is not only a lotion to moisturize, but the concentration of BP seems to be perfect for my combination skin. Daily, I see a significant improvement of my skin and less acne. I apply this 2-3 times per day on clean skin. You can find it at Sephora.com for $39.

2) Origins GinZing Eye Cream. I am very skeptical of eye creams because they all promise a miracle. I love the fact that Origins is natural and not outrageously expensive, so I went in looking for an eye cream that would simply provide me with a little extra moisture. A sales lady recommended the GinZing Eye Cream because is was 1- their best seller and 2- because it would moisturize, tighten, brighten and depuff. I was sold. After about a week, I noticed that my eyes looked younger (and more so everyday)! It was not dramatic, nor was it a miracle, but you know what- I will take it! I use  this as part of my routine twice a day. You can find it at Origins.com for $30.

3) L’Oreal Colour Riche Acqua Lip in Tattoo Coral. I am all about bright orange and coral this season. I am a little backwards, considering it is winter, but when I wear all black I like to add a punch of color. I was on the hunt for a new ‘orange-ish’ color when I came upon this. The color looked perfect and I loved that I didn’t need to reapply all day because it was a stain. Let me tell you how over the moon I am with this lip color! I have been wearing it everyday to fashion week. One day I even missed my bus because I ran back into the house to grab my lip color when I realized it wasn’t in my purse! OB-sessed! It really does stay all day (well at least 5+hours) and the pigmentation is incredible. Not bad for under $10. You can find it at Target.com for $8.

4) Sally Hansen Salon Pro Gel Nail Color in White Away. I am all about gel color on my nails, but I only do it myself. I went to salons for a while, but found that they filed my nails down too much and ruined my nails. I now do them myself and it lasts for weeks with no chips and no damaged nails underneath. I usually wear dark purple or bright blue- something fun, but knowing I was working NY Fashion Week, I wanted something neutral- clean- that would stay. I ran up to my local Target and got this color, applied it that night and now, 8 days later, my nails still look great with not a single chip. Note: The color on the box is not what you get. I applied three coats of this color to eventually get something similar to Essie’s Ballet Slippers, but slightly less pink. I love it, but it is not what I saw on the box. You can find this nail gel at Target.com for $12.

Thank you for reading! Stay tuned for next week’s Products of the Week!
