Beautiful Curls Review My Latest Hair Obsession: The Beautiful Curls Hair Care Line

I’ve grown to really appreciate (dare I say love???) my curls now,but my curl routine could still use some help. My previous routine consisted of  wash, condition, and add mousse—which initially does produce shiny bouncy curls. Only problem is that by the end of the day, my hair looked dry and curls fell flat.

So after what seemed like a whole afternoon of youtube browsing, I came across the channel of  SunKissAlba…a gorgeous girl with gorgeous hair and a fun personality. After viewing about 2 years worth of videos in a couple of hours, I was pumped to try her way of doing curls—add moisture, then moisture, and more moisture.

With my new curl information fresh in my mind, I headed off to Whole Foods, straight to the beauty section. After standing in front of the hair care aisle for a good 45 min…looking at all the products, comparing the products, picking up 5-putting back 2 (my normal beauty product shopping routine) I settled on 2 products.  I decided on the Beautiful Curls line–it was fair trade, all natural, and contained Shea Butter (which I heard worked wonders on curly hair). I purchased the Curl Activating Leave In Conditioner and the Curl Activating Creme and tried them out that night.

Can we say best curls ever??? And without the use of gel, hairspray, or mousse. They were soft, defined and shiny—the holy grail of curl must haves. Compliments poured in the next day at work. Sold.

Here’s what I did:

  • Applied the Curl Activating Leave In Conditioner in the shower
  • After combing through the product once I got out the shower, I applied the Curl Activating Creme (I applied both rather generously)
  • Towel dried hair with an old t-shirt (helps prevent frizz) and air dried the rest
  • Once completely dry, I put my hair in a high bun to sleep
  • Take down in the morning and you’re good to go!

Easy breezy. Style lasts for at least 3 days…any stragglers are touched up with a curling iron. I would definitely recommend this for thicker hair types—fine hair may find the products too heavy.

Any other recommendations??

Any

From the Lab: The Beauty Sample Program For Le Mer Taste on a Cetaphil Budget

14.4.14

IMG 2332 e1397313301867 From the Lab: The Beauty Sample Program For Le Mer Taste on a Cetaphil BudgetBeauty sample boxes have taken the beauty industry by storm in the past 5 years. If by some chance you haven’t heard of them, the concept is that you get to sample a variety of beauty products that are delivered right to your door for a monthly, quarterly, or annual fee.

There’s a sample program for everyone. From big name cosmetic companies to natural products, hair products, curl products, products for men….you get the point. I was a subscriber to one of the more popular ones, but at the end of the day, not only do I have a backlog of products that have being sent to me to review, but I also buy so many products, I get samples all the time—ones that I get to choose (you should see the raised eyebrows from the girls at Sephora ringing me up when they inform me I have over 1400 points Sephora points—and yes I’m hoarding them). I ended up only being interested in maybe one or two of the products sent and half the time didn’t even get to try them.

But the concept behind From The Lab intrigued me. A sample program that actually lets you try products before they are even put on the shelves. Come again? These products are coming straight from the lab before companies get their hands on them. And they only sample luxury products based on high quality ingredients.

Take their March box for example. I got to try Transforming Hair Cleanser No. 724. It’s a full size sample that comes in a basic bottle with a no thrills label. Inside the box also contains a pamphlet that describes the products ingredients, how to use it, and what the predicted retail value is. The Transforming Hair Cleanser No. 724 is a cleansing oil shampoo. Free of sulfates, the cleanser uses a “patented raspberry stem cell technology” and contains castor seed oil, sweet almond oil and berry flux vita all with the promises of soft, shiny hair. The company says it should retail for around $60 once it hits the shelves.

If you really like the product, you can purchase it from the website until the product is sold to a big cosmetic company at a discounted price. No marketing or fancy packaging equals no fancy price.

Pretty cool, right? Not only are you trying new beauty products before anyone else,  you’re paying a fraction of the price for luxury beauty. It’s a definite for the adventurous beauty junkie that likes a good deal.

Subscriptions start at $29.99/month. Request an invitation here

Self Split End Cutter Seeks Help in L’Oreal’s Total Repair 5 Shampoo and Conditioner

02.4.14

I don’t know when my obsession with split ends began. I think I can trace it back to about 6 months ago. The longer my hair got, the more noticeable they became. It’s probably a normal amount —nothing that would cause alarm. I get my hair trimmed every 8 weeks and the amount of heat I put on my hair is minimal.

But every time I see a split end I have to cut it. The red scissors at my office desk have doubled as hair cutting shears. And my officemate now stares at me with a look of  both confusion and curiosity as she says “Are you cutting your hair again?”

My only saving grace is that I once read that Jennifer Aniston does the same thing.

So even though I’ve joined the sulfate free bandwagon, I was intrigued when I had the opportunity to try L’Oreal’s  new Total Repair 5 Shampoo and Conditioner. What’s the 5 stand for? It performs 5 repairing actions: rebuilds fibers, strength, vitality, silkiness and shine. Only sounds like it could benefit my hair, so I gave it a try.

Truth be told, I was initally nervous when I first started sudsing up. It’s been a long time since I had the “squeaky” clean feeling so all I could envision was a frizzy, dry mess.  But after applying the conditioner, my fears subsided as the conditioner instantly seemed to penetrtate and smooth out my hair.

After applying my usual hair serum ( L’Oreal Kerastase Oleo Relax Hair Serum),  I began blow drying my hair and noticed how soft and super shiny it was. It was a nice change to not see so many frayed ends after styling my hair. So far so good…I may have to incorporate this in my usual routine every once in awhile!

Needless to say, I’m a happy camper this week. My hair looks great and my red scissors have gotten a much deserved break.

Now if only I could stop opening paper clips to scrap underneath my nails…..
