The Amazing “Amazing Cosmetics”

I am  on a constant  quest  for new products to use on my clients and had heard about Amazing Cosmetics through some fellow makeup artists. When I tried it for the first time it was like I hit the jack pot.  Amazing Cosmetics  is a must have in your makeup bag ladies!!

Here are  the fabulous products I tested :

  • Anti-Age Face Primer
  • Amazing Concealer
  • Velvet Mineral Liquid Foundation
  • Velvet Mineral Pressed Powder

Anti- Aging Face Primer

This is a clear light weight moisturizer and face primer in one. A primer in general is a must have in your makeup kit. It  acts as a barrier between your skin and your makeup  allowing the makeup to sit on your face throughout the day.

  • Fills in pores and fine lines
  • Glides on softly and feels refreshing on the the face
  • Oil, paraben, and fragrance free
  • Works with any skin type

{Retail  $34}

Amazing Concealer

Can you say Waterproof!!??

I like to call this the skin erase because “now you see it now you don’t”.  Your blemishes will be concealed perfectly with a dab of this product. Try using a concealer brush not your finger. I even used it on a tattoo to cover it up (first I used a pink concealer to cancel out the blue in the tattoo, then apply the amazing concealer in your skin tone then powder it with a translucent powder )

  • Highly pigmented
  • Creates a smooth even complexion
  • Nourishes  the  skin with cucumber extract
  • Creamy texture
  • Comes in 10 shades, works for any skin tone

This concealer comes in a squeeze tube and very clever that it comes in two sizes,  the smaller one is a convenient size  for traveling . {Retail  $28 for small size and $42 for larger.}

Velvet Mineral Liquid Foundation

What I really love about this product is that it feels just like velvet exactly what the name says it is!

  • Buildable coverage, which means you can layer it to get a full coverage
  • Glides on the skin effortlessly
  • Lightweight Consistency
  • Ingredient : Casia Angustifolia acts as a moisture magnet for the complexion  which leaves your skin feeling hydrated not dry
  • Comes in 10 gorgeous shades to choose from
  • SPF 15

{Retail $36}

Velvet Mineral Pressed Powder

This pressed powder is delightful to use. You can set your makeup with it or use it alone.

The 4 Essential Makeup Brushes

A professional makeup artist will usually have 40+ makeup brushes, but a woman really only needs about 4! There are certain brushes that can multitask and cover all your bases. If you invest in a handful of good brushes, they will last years and will achieve a nicer product with every application. Some brushes cost $50 and some cost $15, but a high price tag doesn’t always mean a better brush. Be selective and follow these tips when buying brushes.

So what brushes do you need?

1. A foundation brush. I really love the Sonia Kashuk Synthetic Flat Blusher Brush. They say it is a blusher brush, but when used with a liquid foundation, this brush will give you an airbrushed look. Apply foundation in a circular motion until blended. I would choose this Sonia Kashuk over my $40 foundation brush! Available at Target. Suggested Retail: $14.99

2. A concealer brush. The #110 Concealing Brush from Cover FX is the perfect concealer brush. When choosing a concealer brush, look for synthetic bristles- concealer doesn’t absorb into them as easily as natural bristles. Your concealer will last longer when used with a synthetic bristle brush, thus saving you money! Available at Sephora. Suggested Retail: $14.

3. An angle liner brush. You can use this brush for liner, shadow, to fill in brows and even as a lipstick brush (in a pinch!). I recommend the MAC 208 Angled Brow Brush. The 208 is thin, so it’s perfect for lining eyes, but the bristles are firm enough to perfectly apply brow powder too. You will get a crisp, clean line every time. Available at MAC Cosmetics Counters. Suggested Retail: $19.50.

4. A shadow brush. The S175 Eye Contour Brush from Cozzette is truly luxurious. In the pro-makeup world, these brushes are top of the line. This brush can be used to apply shadow to the lid, to the crease, blend, highlight, and even set your foundation with powder in areas like under eye and around your nose. Tip: when applying eye makeup with one brush, start with the lightest color and end with the darkest, there will be less color transfer. Available at Cozzette. Suggested Retail: $16.

If you have just these 4 brushes, you can easily apply your daily makeup with perfection! These are the essentials- the ‘must-haves’- and once you get the hang of using these four brushes, I guarantee you will want more. Try them, have fun with it! Enjoy!

Give Me 5 Minutes! The Perfect 5 Minute Face

So you only have 5 minutes to do your makeup? No problem! I will show you what exact products you need and how to apply them. Give yourself 5 minutes to amp up your morning routine and feel fabulous before you take on the day.

The products:

1. Primer. I recommend the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15. Available at Barneys and Sephora. Suggested Retail: $52.

2. Tinted moisturizer or foundation, depending on the level of coverage you need. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil-Free (Available at Macy’s or Sephora. Suggested Retail: $42) or Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation (Available at Sephora or at Makeup Forever Boutique. Suggested Retail: $40) if you need a bit more coverage then a tinted moisturizer gives.

3. Concealer. Chose a concealer that has a peachy/orange or yellow undertones to cover dark circles. Benefit Boi-ing (Available at Benefit Cosmetics or at Sephora. Suggested Retail: $19) or Eve Pearl Dual Salmon Concealer & Treatment (Available at Eve Pearl. Suggested Retail: $37)  for under eye and Makeup Forever 5 Camoflage Cream Palette (Available at Sephora or any Makeup Forever Boutique. Suggested Retail: $36) for the face.

4. Cream blush. Tarte Cheek Stain in whatever color you enjoy! I love Blissful or Natural Beauty. Available at Sephora. Suggested Retail: $30.

5. Setting powder. Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder (Available at Sephora. Suggested Retail: $30) or Trish McEvoy Translucent Finishing Powder (Available at Bloomingdales. Suggested retail: $38).

6. An eyeliner to compliment your eye color. Blue eyes: Pick one that has copper/bronze undertones with a slight iridescence like Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes in Pearly Brown 2L or Bronze 10L. Green eyes: pick a brown with a purple undertone like Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes in Shimmering Plum 4L. Brown eyes: Pick a navy/grey shade like M·A·C In The Groove Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Navy Stain. Makeup Forever Liners available at Sephora. Suggested Retail: $18. MAC Liner available at Bloomingdales. Suggested Retail: $15.

7. Lash curler. I recommend Revlon Extra Curl lash Curler. Available at CVS. Suggested Retail: $6.99.

8. Waterproof or water resistant mascara. I love Too Faced Lash Injection (Available at Sephora. Suggested retail: $21) or Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof (Available at CVS. Suggested Retail: $5.29).

The Steps:

1. Apply primer over entire face.

2. Apply tinted moisturizer/foundation to entire face. Use a round stiff brush and apply in a circular motion until blended.

3. Apply concealer under eyes (use the eye concealer for this only), on the sides of your nose, sides of your mouth and cupid’s bow (that area where your lips form a ‘V’ on your top lip). Blend with your ring finger (it applies the perfect amount of pressure).

4. Apply cream blush to cheekbones, lips (yes, lips!) and to your eyelids (with your ring finger, like above). Blend.

5. With a powder brush, apply your chosen setting powder.

6. Run your chosen liner along your upper water line. This is the smooth surface under your upper lashes. This will take some practice! Then extend the liner up into your lash line. With your finger, smudge slightly to buff out the rough line of the liner.

7. Curl lashes by clamping down at the base and then intermittently ‘pump’ down the lash towards the tip.

8. Apply chosen mascara. DONE!

The first few times you do this, it may take more like 10 minutes, but once you are comfortable, you will be able to do it in under 5 minutes- I swear! Enjoy!

4 Tips to Banish Undereye Circles and Wrinkles

Because the eye area is so delicate, it’s one of the first areas on the face to show signs of aging. However, with prevention and the right makeup, you can maintain a bright, youthful and refreshed appearance.

  1. Prevention- I’m a big fan of retinol for preventing wrinkles and diminishing fine lines. Choose a product specially formulated for the eyes. I like RoC Retinol CORREXION Eye Cream $28.99
  2. Prep- Prep the eye area with a good moisturizer. Not only does a moisturized eye area help in the prevention of wrinkles, but it also helps concealer go on better.
  3. Conceal-  Choose a creamy concealer one shade lighter than your skin tone. My favorite is Clé de Peau Concealer $70. It’s pricey, but hands down the best concealer I’ve ever tried and it lasts forever.
  4. Set- After you apply your concealer, set it with a translucent powder. It helps make the concealer last longer and prevent it from settling into fine lines. Try Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder  $22. Make sure it’s blended really well. Because it contains a white pigment, it will show up in photos if not blended properly.
