What We’re Obsessed With: LashControl Mascara

We have all been tempted to try, or have even tried, the latest mascara that claims to separate, lengthen, create volume, etc. I have been testing and trying mascaras for years to find that one that will solve all my lash issues, but I’m constantly unimpressed. Enter LashControl. It’s the first of its kind and its absolutely incredible! There are three parts to this mascara: The formula, the wand and the tube.

The formula bonds really well to the lashes and it coats beautifully without clumps. It is loaded with botanicals including Gingko Biloba, Chamomile Flower Extract, Aloe, Keratin, Amino Acids, Aloe Bargadensis Leaf Extract and Panax Ginseng Root Extract. A beeswax base keeps lashes hydrated and conditions them with proteins. You will not get the little black flakes dropping off of your lashes onto your perfectly concealed under eye area after hours of wearing it. You also will not have black streaks running down your face if you find yourself without your umbrella. To remove it, I counted  exactly 5 full-on splashes to my face when washing at night to get this stuff off. No soap (although that would be helpful!), no rubbing and no irritation.

The wand has bristles that look like they have been snipped down or shortened in some spots. The effect? The long spots lengthen your lashes extra long and you get this ‘false lashes’ effect. So, so pretty! My favorite thing about the wand? While the bristles are long enough to lengthen your lashes, they are placed close enough together that they do not go past your lashes and put a lovely glop of mascara on your eyelid.

Now, lets talk about the original and monumental mascara tube. Remember those little gummy pencil covers we were all obsessed with in elementary school? They found a way to put that into the engineering of their mascara tube to make it more sanitary then ever and completely functional. You place the wand inside the tube, squeeze the gummy insert, and pull the wand out. What you find is the most perfectly distributed amount of mascara with zero clumps. Want more coverage? Put  the wand back in and pull it out again, just don’t squeeze as much. Simple as that!

Mascara is one of those things that is essential for a daily face and when we find a really good one it’s like the sky has parted and angels are singing. This is that mascara. It’s loved by celebrities like Mila Kunis, Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Ashley Greene, and Katherine McPhee. Take my word for it, you will love it too.

LashControl Mascara is available at LashControl.com. Suggested Retail: $16-20.

Hot Product : Make Up For Ever Flash Palette

There is always one product that makeup artists will tell you they cannot work without and I have yet to encounter a makeup artist that has not said the Make Up For Ever Flash Palette (aka: 12 Flash Color Case). This palette allows the user to create virtually any shade that can be used almost anywhere!

Let’s set up some examples, shall we?

You’re off to an interview and realize you forgot your eyeliner and mascara (if you’re like me, you don’t feel yourself or your best without these products!), but you realize you have your palette in the bottom of your bag!

  • Dip the very tip of your pinky finger into the brown cream and with light pressure, rub your finger along your lash line smudging the color within your lashes.
  • Stick your middle finger into the black, then press your middle finger and thumb together- transferring some of the color to your thumb.
  • Lightly pinch your lashes between your middle finger and thumb. Then pull the color through the end of the lashes.

The look will be a slight smokey eye with dark lashes! Another example? You are off to drinks with your girlfriends and get stuck in the rain. Your foundation/concealer slides right off that awful blemish you have on your chin. No worries, you can fix this.

  • Mix the peach, the white, a dab of brown and a maybe a dab of yellow (the mix will vary based upon your skin tone) and you have foundation to cover that blemish!

I watched a makeup artist do an entire face for fashion week with this palette. Try the light blue with a bit of silver and white on your lids to make a creamy base for eye shadow or apply the peach to your cheeks for a warm glow. Try the red on your lips or mix some gold with the white and you have a highlighter for your brow bone, cheekbones and inner eye corner. The possibilities are endless and the product will be gone before it goes bad; it lasts a very long time! It’s a multifunctional product that is flying off the shelves at Make Up For Ever! Try it, you will not be sorry.

The Make Up For Ever Flash Palette is sold at all Make Up For Ever locations and sephora.com. Suggested Retail: $95. Safety Information: Do not use following colors near the eyes : 002 – 005 – 017 (pink/red/coral). Do not use following colors on the lips : 003 – 010 – 014 (silver/royal blue/white).

8. Waterproof or water resistant mascara. I love Too Faced Lash Injection (Available at Sephora. Suggested retail: $21) or Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof (Available at CVS. Suggested Retail: $5.29).

The Steps:

1. Apply primer over entire face.

2. Apply tinted moisturizer/foundation to entire face. Use a round stiff brush and apply in a circular motion until blended.

3. Apply concealer under eyes (use the eye concealer for this only), on the sides of your nose, sides of your mouth and cupid’s bow (that area where your lips form a ‘V’ on your top lip). Blend with your ring finger (it applies the perfect amount of pressure).

4. Apply cream blush to cheekbones, lips (yes, lips!) and to your eyelids (with your ring finger, like above). Blend.

5. With a powder brush, apply your chosen setting powder.

6. Run your chosen liner along your upper water line. This is the smooth surface under your upper lashes. This will take some practice! Then extend the liner up into your lash line. With your finger, smudge slightly to buff out the rough line of the liner.

7. Curl lashes by clamping down at the base and then intermittently ‘pump’ down the lash towards the tip.

8. Apply chosen mascara. DONE!

The first few times you do this, it may take more like 10 minutes, but once you are comfortable, you will be able to do it in under 5 minutes- I swear! Enjoy!

Loving L’Oreal: 4 Reasons To Love the Drugstore Beauty Giants

When it comes to makeup, expensive doesn’t always equal better. Some of my tried and true staples can be found at your local drugstore or super market. As you will see, one brand stands out in particular, and that’s L’Oreal. I’ll admit I don’t frequently reach out to other brands as I’ve tried them in the past and they didn’t impress me.  Here are 4 reasons/products why L’Oreal reigns supreme in the drugstore beauty aisle.

1. L’Oreal Lash Out

I first came in contact with this mascara a few years ago when I did a photo shoot with Glamour magazine. The makeup artist used this mascara and just a few individual lashes to make my eye lashes really pop. She then confided it was the only mascara she uses. While I’ve tried others, including the popular and award winning Maybelline’s Great Lash (I don’t get the hype?), I always come back to this. L’Oreal’s Voluminous comes in a close 2nd. If you love Dior’s Dior Show, you’ll love this. Only downside? It needs to be replaced more often then usually, as it tends to get clumpy the longer you have it. But for around 7 bucks, I can cope :)

2. L’Oreal HIP High Intensity Pigments

These eye shadows in my honest opinion, come closest to MAC quality eyes hadows. The colors are rich, vibrant, and last long.

3. L’Oreal True Match Foundation

This is simply my favorite due to the color choices. I have very yellow undertones and it’s extremely difficult to find a foundation that matches perfectly. Bobbi Brown is fabulous for women with very warm or yellow undertones. But for drugstore beauty, only L’Oreal gets it right.

4. L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray

I haaate hairspray. Or so I thought. I had long heard of Elnett before it hit drugstore shelves in every major fashion magazines as celebrity hairstylists favorite must have. It holds, gives shine, and best yet, brushes out easily.
