Last weekend I got the chance to stop by the Cherry Hill mall for Nordstrom’s Beauty Trend Event. The event is taking place at Nordstrom stores across the nation.

Dozens of beauty experts were on hand to provide one-one-one free consultations, makeovers and discuss the latest trends! Armed with my camera and my sister-in-law, Kristen, we experienced first hand the awesomeness of the Beauty Trend Event (seriously they even had cake pops and a DJ).

Kris is used to being my beauty guinea pig, so she plopped in a chair while Beauty Stylist Nicholas Mancini worked his magic giving her a bronzy night look just in time for the summer. We talked about all things beauty with Nicholas from the importance of a great skin care routine to the universal struggle of reversing the signs of aging and dreaded “man hands”.

Nicolas took care to emphasize Kristen’s features using a Smashbox BB Cream to even out her already perfect “young skin” and a deep purple eyeshadow trio to bring out her brown eyes.

My favorite products used? Le Volume de Chanel mascara in Prune, $30, a gorgeous plum shade and Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in #4, a punch of pink in a glossy finish, $50.

In the end, Nicholas took an already naturally gorgeous Kristen and gave her a hot summer look for a night out. Kristen loved the look so much, she looked past the $50 price tag and went home with her own Phyto-Lip Twist!

Hello and Happy New Year!!!!  Hope you all had a fabulous Holiday season.  I  want to share some of my favorites this week. Enjoy!

SMASHBOX Lip Enhancing Gloss in Baby Pout

This has become my staple gloss this week, there is vitamin E and sunflower seed oil to keep my lips soft. Baby Pout has been my favorite nude tone. Nice and shiny too. {$19}

MALLY  eyelift Shadow Duo in Taupe

In this winter season my eyes become more tired looking and in need of a lift. I like using Mally eyelift Duo to solve this.

Has two colors one pale pinky color and the other is taupe which I use in the crease . Comes with a really nice double ended brush. With a little eyeliner and mascara you have an instant eye lift look. ( compact is lovely too with a mirror) {$25}

MOROCCAN OIL Glimmer Shine

Its time for shine no doubt in this dry weather. I love spraying this on after I wash my hair ( right before I blow dry it)

The results :  hair looks smooth , sleek and soft. Hair conforms nicely while blow drying too! {$25)

 OLIVELLA Daily Facial Cleansing Tissues

I stumbled upon these in a local store that sells olive oils from all over the world, so I purchased them. All I can say is wow these are by far the best wipes I have ever used. These 100% virgin olive oil, left my skin glowing. I mean talk about a natural antioxidant for your skin.!! {30 in a pack $7.50}

Thanks for reading!!

Here is a photo of me after using the Moroccan Oil (My hair is usually un-manageable)

Favorite Products of the Week- 12/3/12

04.12.12

faves12 3 12 Favorite Products of the Week  12/3/12

As the holiday season approaches, I find myself at the mall more often then usual and because I am a beauty addict, I am often found at the beauty counters! I have included some of my favorite new purchases from this past week, but also some of my favorites from the last couple months.

1) Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup ($36). This. Foundation. Rocks! I tried this only because I had tried on a lipgloss and had no foundation on (a big no no!) and ended up loving it. I have been wearing it almost daily and get so many compliments. One note: If you have dry skin, stay clear of this foundation as it is meant to keep a face from getting oily and this will only look cakey on your skin. I apply this with my Sigma Round Kabuki Brush ($18) and it looks airbrushed. I can wear it from 7:30am- bed with no touch ups. Give it a shot! You may love it just as much as I do!

2) Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Lipstick in Stay Coral ($25). This has become my ‘one’ color. You know, the color you can wear with everything. Yesterday, I went to the grocery store in black sweats and a black baseball cap (All black? I’m always in all black! I’m a New Yorker, it’s our wardrobe). Last minute, I decided to put on my foundation (see #1), mascara and run out the door. I made a quick decision to put this lipstick on too and it worked! I usually will not wear lipstick in sweats as it feels overdone, but this was an exception. This is also the same color I wore out to dinner with my girlfriends last week. It’s versatile and I’m in love!

3) Benefit Girl Meets Pearl ($30). I use this as a highlighter on places like my cheekbones, bridge of my nose, inner corners of my eyes and cupids bow. Even with a full coverage, matte foundation, this gives my face a beautiful glow. It soaks right into the skin so there is no residue on top of your foundation. Love using powder on top of all your makeup? This still shows through! It is beautiful in person, but even more beautiful in pictures so I use it on my brides especially. I have tried many illuminating products, but the pink tint to Girl Meets Pearl really meshes well with my skin tone.

4) Smashbox Waterproof Shadow Liner in Metallic Bronze ($22). This is another one of my go-to products. I have blue eyes, so using a bronze on my lids really makes the blue pop (tip for blue eyed babes!) and this liner stays all day. I am a makeup artist, so to say I have a plethora of makeup is an understatement, but I have recently compiled my own kit that is just for me. This liner is in it in many colors! I apply it by drawing a super think line across my lashes and blending up until my whole lid is covered. I then apply mascara… that’s it! It has fantastic pigmentation and makes my eyes pop!

5) Bella Pierre Mineral Foundation ($65). So this powder comes with a hefty price tag, but I have found that it is one that gives me the coverage I need and doesn’t cause breakouts. I use a powder brush and apply this in a circular motion all over my face. I wear this alone on days I just don’t feel like wearing full makeup or on top of my full makeup if I am looking for a completely  full coverage with a matte finish. Bella Pierre is a brand that carries so many fun colors and products, check them out!

6) Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Eye Serum ($55). I am mom of two kids, so sleep is often optional. However, looking like I haven’t slept for a week is never optional. To keep my dark circles and bags at bay, I apply this morning and night. It comes with a dropper and the best way to apply it is: pull the dropper out of the bottle and squeeze its contents back into the bottle. Now, without squeezing the dropper, dip it back in and pull it out. The little drop that is on the tip is all you need for each eye. Seriously! This bottle has lasted me 5 months and isn’t even half gone. Well worth the money if you ask me because it lasts forever and it works!

I hope that you now have some input to get out there and try some of these products if you have been thinking of doing so or if you are just looking for new recommendations. If you try them, let us know how you feel about them!

Thank you for reading, Beauties.

Interview With Celebrity Makeup Artist Penny Sadler

05.3.12

We had the opportunity to interview Dallas-based Celebrity Makeup Artist Penny Sadler. She has worked as a makeup artist for over 20 years and has done print, commercials, fashion, brides, as well as worked with some big name celebrities.  Penny’s work can be seen in Forbes, Travel & Leisure and international editions of People, as well as in hundreds of national commercials and news broadcasts. She tells us some of her secrets, some of her favorite products and a bit about her favorite celebrities to work with!

A Beauty Loft: Have you always known you want to be a Makeup Artist?

Penny Sadler: Mostly, yes. I was just a teenager when I realized this would be my career path.

ABL: What is your evening skincare routine?

PS: I wash my face every night, no matter what. I then use a toning lotion, followed by a moisturizer with copper peptides and anti-aging hyloranic acid.

ABL: What has been the most challenging part of working as a pro Makeup Artist?

PS: The most challenging part is moving from place to place. You never know what your enviroment will be. There are hotel ballrooms, bathrooms, studios, etc. There is often terrible lighting and inconvenient weather that will change the job or ruin the makeup.

ABL: What is your favorite beauty tool?

PS: Ben Nye #18 Blending Brush (Suggested Retail: $14. Can be purchased at StageMakeupOnline). It can be used to apply foundation (in a pinch), but I mostly use it to blend the whole face. Blending is so important! It has synthetic bristles, which I love because they give a smoother application.

ABL: Who is your favorite celebrity client?

PS: Laura Leighton [Melrose Place and Pretty Little Liars] and Brooke Sheilds. Brooke is very sweet and gentle. She is a very kind woman and super easy to work with. Laura is very hands off. She gave me a lot of freedom to work and be creative. She’s very down to earth and not a diva at all.

ABL: If you had to run out of the house and only grab one makeup product, what would it be?

PS: Mascara! I love CoverGirl Lash Blast (Suggested Retail: $9.99. Available at CVS) and Dior Show Black Out (suggested Retail: $25. Available at Sephora).

ABL: What is your favorite skincare tip for problematic skin?

PS: Stop using soap and water on your skin. So many women look for something that is foaming and sudsy, but they strip the natural oils. Even women with oily skin can use an oil-based cleanser, just look for one made for oily skin. The oil cleanser breaks down the makeup much better then soap and gives a more thorough cleanse. Follow with a toning lotion or try witch hazel if you have oily skin.

ABL: Do you feel pressured to wear makeup constantly because you are a Makeup Artist?

PS: No. When I was new to the business, I felt this way. I do like to cover any serious imperfections like a blemish. I do fill in my brows though. My eyebrows are not even, so I must even them out.

ABL: Can you offer any advice to others who are looking to be a Makeup Artist or work in the beauty industry?

PS: Be quiet. Observe. Watch whats going on. Try to work with other people if you can and learn as much as possible from others. Then you’ll better know how to respond to different situations.

ABL: What are some products that, in your opinion, can be purchased at the drugstore and some you find necessary to spend more on?

PS: You can buy drugstore brand lipstick, translucent powders and shadows. Higher end products are more pigmented, but often drugstore products like shadows and lipsticks are great for the average consumer. Spend more on lip pencils, eye pencils and primers. Better quality pencils have better staying power and go on smoother.

ABL: While were on the subject, what is your favorite primer?

PS: Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Correcting Serum (Suggested Retail: $39.50. Available at Sephora). For more specified problem solving like pigmentation issues, I like the Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primers (Suggested Retail: $38. Available at Sephora). The green primer does a fantastic job of balancing out red skin.

A huge thank you to Penny Sadler for allowing us to ask her so many questions and for offering great advice! For more information on the fabulous Penny Sadler go to: www.pennysadler.com
