This past weekend we (Renee and I) spent the whole day at The Makeup Show NYC and it was absolutely incredible, but also completely overwhelming. We spent about 3-4 hours shopping, browsing and exploring and found ourselves with arms full of heavy bags. We regrouped over lunch and then went back for more. 3 more hours!
I spent the last hour exploring all the booths I had walked past about a dozen times because they had been packed and found some serious treasure!
A brand I spent a lot of time trying and learning about is called Naked Cosmetics and this line is nothing short of amazing! They offer sets that come in sleek black sleeves and contain 6 different colors. The color set I chose is called Sierra Nevada and the colors range from a matte black to shimmer ivory with 4 other shades thrown in the mix. This set could be used on a bride or a Playboy Bunny, the colors are perfect for sexy glamour.
I have decided to do a tutorial primarily using this set. I was completely thrilled with the performance and outcome of these shadows. This set is like a one stop shop and will take you from church to a Saturday night dance session!
Here is my tutorial for understated glamorous eyes (I wear this daily!):
A) Stila‘s Prime Pot in Taffy. (Available at StilaCosmetics.com for $20)
B) Using your finger, apply primer from lashes to brow and from corner to corner.
C) Sonia Kashuk Small Multi-purpose Powder Brush. (Available at Target.com for $10.79)
D) Apply Shade #SN-01 (iridescent ivory) to the inner corner and shade #SN-02 to the brow bone (shimmer cream/pink).
E) Sigma Beauty‘s Eye Shading- E55 Brush. (Available at SigmaBeauty.com for $9)
F) Using the above brush, apply shade #SN-03 (metallic copper) with a damp brush to the entire lid.
G) Cozzette Brush D200- The Bullet Brush. (Available at RoqueCozzette.com for $14)
H) Using the above brush, apply shade #SN-05 (medium brown) to the crease and outer corner.
I) Sigma Beauty‘s Precision Round- P82 Brush. (Available at SigmaBeauty.com for $14)
J) Using the above brush, blend all brown shadow until there is no hard line.
K) Using the E.L.F. Gem Shadow Brush ($2, no longer available for sale), apply shade #SN-06 (matte black) to the outer corner and pull it in along the crease without putting anymore shadow on the brush.
L) Use Sigma‘s P82 Brush again to blend the black shadow until there is no hard line.
M) Kryolan‘s Professional Round Brush in size # Art.3501. (Available by special order from Kryolan.com)
N) Using the above brush, draw a line along the lashes in shade #SN-06 (matte black) with a damp brush. Pull the line slightly out past the lashes and angled up to create a winged effect.
O) Using the same brush and shade # SN-05 (medium brown), line within the lower lashes.
P) LashControl‘s Purple Squeeze 2x Black Volumizing Mascara. (Available at LashControl.com for $20)
Q) Apply LashControl Mascara to bottom lashes first, then top. Wiggle the wand slightly at the base of the lashes, then pull through the entire lash.
R) Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics‘ Lip Tar in Memento. (Available at OCCmakeup.com for $14)
S) Using Apt. 5‘s Eyeliner Brush (it works better for lipstick), apply Memento to the entire lip (I cannot find this brush online anywhere, but I purchased it at Duane Reade).
T) Ta-da! The final product!
I hope you give this look a try and if you decide to try the Naked Cosmetics Sierra Nevada kit, I hope you love it as much as I do! Please let us know (in the comments below) if you try this look and what your outcome is.
You can purchase the Naked Cosmetics Sierra Nevada kit at MilazzoBeauty.com for $59.99. Whatever colors you choose, I highly recommend the Naked Cosmetics pigments. They can be used as blush, shadow, lip gloss, nail polish and even temporary hair color! Amazing.
