Last weekend I got the chance to stop by the Cherry Hill mall for Nordstrom’s Beauty Trend Event. The event is taking place at Nordstrom stores across the nation.

Dozens of beauty experts were on hand to provide one-one-one free consultations, makeovers and discuss the latest trends! Armed with my camera and my sister-in-law, Kristen, we experienced first hand the awesomeness of the Beauty Trend Event (seriously they even had cake pops and a DJ).

Kris is used to being my beauty guinea pig, so she plopped in a chair while Beauty Stylist Nicholas Mancini worked his magic giving her a bronzy night look just in time for the summer. We talked about all things beauty with Nicholas from the importance of a great skin care routine to the universal struggle of reversing the signs of aging and dreaded “man hands”.

Nicolas took care to emphasize Kristen’s features using a Smashbox BB Cream to even out her already perfect “young skin” and a deep purple eyeshadow trio to bring out her brown eyes.

My favorite products used? Le Volume de Chanel mascara in Prune, $30, a gorgeous plum shade and Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist in #4, a punch of pink in a glossy finish, $50.

In the end, Nicholas took an already naturally gorgeous Kristen and gave her a hot summer look for a night out. Kristen loved the look so much, she looked past the $50 price tag and went home with her own Phyto-Lip Twist!

Giveaway Giveaway: Win Skin Authoritys VitaD Fortified Tropical Elixir and Age Defying Moisturizer

If I had to name my biggest skin concerns since having my son almost a year ago (!), it would be 1) dull skin 2)hormonal breakouts. The hormones are part of the deal with nursing–so there isn’t too much I can do to prevent them. But I’m eager to shed the dull skin this spring in favor of a refreshed complexion .

Luckily, Skin Authority (one of my favorite skin care brands), heard my woes, and sent me their new VitaD Fortified Tropical Elixir to try.  Benefits include:

  • Ideal for all skin types.
  • Essential skin nutrients including D2, D3, A, E, and K
  • Includes both Vitamin D2 and D3 for full-spectrum effect
  • Powerful oligopeptide to firm and brighten skin with continued use
  • Oil-free, Dry Finish Technology™
  • Contains no parabens, AHAs, dyes, added fragrances, or animal testing.

Right away, I noticed how fast it absorbed into my skin. With no residue and the fast absorption, it’s perfect alone or under makeup. And no residue or oil equals less breakouts. #winning.

After several weeks of use, VitaD Fortified Tropical Elixir must have been doing its job because the dental tech at my dentist appointment actually asked me “what is my secret” when I told her my age. Maybe she was trying to make up for having to break out her “power tools” on me that day, but I feel vindicated that it wasn’t just me that thought glowing skin was not just a figment of my imagination.

And to preserve my fresh faced glow, I followed up with Skin Authority’s Age Defying Moisturizer SPF18. I’ve always been a fan of this moisturizer because it moisturizes all day, but doesn’t break me out.I’m fanatical about sunscreen—it’s a daily essential everyone should incorporate in their daily routine (even those with darker skin tones)–and the broad spectrum SPF 18 provides protection great daily protection from the sun.

A lucky reader is going to get to try the dynamic skin care duo! To enter, use the form below to enter and like Skin Authority on Facebook. You can also earn additional entries by following Skin Authority on twitter and/or A Beauty Loft on Facebook. Good luck!

Tutorial: 4 Easy Steps to Sensuous Spirals

08.5.14

IMG 2702 2 e1399511017459 Tutorial: 4 Easy Steps to Sensuous Spirals“Where do those curls come from?” I’ve heard this question more than once in reference to my über-cute 10 month old. Yet each time I hear it, I’m taken aback because, obviously, he gets them from me–along with easy disposition, dimples, and infectious laugh (the occasional temper tantrum is his dad’s side).

It recently dawned on me that the curl confusion is due to the fact I’ve abandoned my ringlets in favor of a sleek blow out. When my maternity leave was over, the allure of a long lasting blow out when I’m sleep deprived and short on time was too tempting. I’ve been a slave to straight hair ever since.

In effort to gain points on my currently losing battle of the “who my son looks like more” competition, I’ve partnered up with Frizz Ease to take their #downfor30 challenge. I’m saying goodbye to my ponytails, buns, messy updos, and hot mess pull backs for 30 days and rocking my curls—down. The chance to win a dream trip to NYC doesn’t hurt this curly girl’s motivation to stay #downfor30 strong—who’s with me??

So how do I get my ‘Sensuous Spirals’?

Sensuous Spirlas Tutorial: 4 Easy Steps to Sensuous Spirals

1. Start with damp hair. Depending on your hair texture, you may want to use a leave in conditioner or a hair oil, like Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir.

2. Mousse provides a shiny, light weight, but firm hold that I love . Using Frizz Ease Curl Reviver mousse, apply a generous golf ball size of mousse to each area of your hair. Tip: Section hair into 4 sections to make ensure even coverage

3. Allow to air dry. If your really in a rush, blow dry with a diffuser on low setting. Important: to eliminate frizz completely, make sure hair is 100% dry before touching. Disturbing curly hair before it’s had a chance to completely dry can be the difference between sensuous spirals and lackluster locks.

4. Once hair is completely dry, touch up any stray strands with a small barrel curling iron. I use a 5/8″ curling iron.

Additional tips for frizz free curls:

  • For looser curls, sleep with your hair in a bun on top of  your head
  • Avoid sulfates and harsh chemicals that can dry out hair and create frizz
  • Use a satin pillowcase to cut back on frizz while sleeping
  • Dry hair with an old t-shirt instead of a towel
  • Use a moisturizing touch up creme, like Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme, through out the day to add shine and refresh curls

Don’t forget to post your sensuous spirals, curls and waves on Instagram with the hashtags #downfor30 and #sweeps for a chance to win a trip of a lifetime to NYC! Go here for more details http://www.neverpullback.com/down/.

Carnival of Frizz Free Curls (and Deep Fried Twinkies)

So I’m still #downfor30! I’ve had a couple of set backs (mainly lack of sleep=no time to do my hair), but I got right back on it and currently going strong. Stay tuned for a tutorial this week about how I tame my ringlets. The above photo was taken on a cloudy day and raining on and off while at a carnival, and I have to say, my curls held up pretty well.

The Voorhees Town Center Carnival is going on in Voorhees, NJ—great place to take the kiddies in the nice weather this week!

They had deep fried twinkles. I opted for the modest zeppoles (which they were out of), but somebody I know had the deep fried twinkie….

This same person also went on this ride with their step son and nearly threw up. Again. Not naming any names here.

Said deep fried twinkie eater may or may not be in the above photo in a Puma sweatshirt. Again….not naming any names or fried food shaming here.
