Nothing makes you condense your morning routine better and faster than having a baby in the house. Take this past month for example. Rocco hit 8 months and for some unkown reason, sleeping through the night became a thing of the past and a distant, bitter sweet memory. I tried everything– putting him to bed earlier, later, giving him more food, less food, dream feeding (I thought that was done??), and Motrin before bed (probably more nights than I should have). Nothing worked. He would wake up around 2:30/3 AM and by the time he went back to sleep it was time to get up for work.

Needless to say, I got up later in the mornings and my 20 minute makeup routine was reduced to about 12. Looking for a brief ray of sunshine through a cloudy haze of exhaustion, I decided to purchase the new NARS Matte Multiple (in Laos) because makeup shopping is the only thing that makes me feel better.

Hello my new morning BFF!

So if your not familiar with the NARS Multiples, $39, they are a multi-use product for the eyes, face and lips. The original line of Multiples were sheer with a hint of shimmer. Perfect for highlighting and a just a kiss of color.

Its cousin, the new Matte Multiple, packs more of a punch. While the size of the Matte Multiple is smaller, the product is super pigmented—thus needing less product. And the color is buildable so you can adjust how vibrant you want the color to be (see just one swipe below, in Laos):

It’s easy to blend with fingers or a brush. For a sheerer look, apply wet.  Applied on lips, I suggest a coat of gloss, as it’s a little too matte for me.  The line comes in 8 shades and I want every single one.

But until then I’ll be happy with Laos. And 8 hours of sleep, please.

Products of the week Products of the Week

Here’s a breakdown of some of the products I’ve been loving this past week (from top to bottom):

Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade, $18. For a product to fill in and shape my brows, I’ve always preferred a gel or powder consistency as I think they have the most natural looking results. My go-to for years was Laura Mercier’s brow gel, but I really like this Dipbrow Pomade.  It stays on ALL DAY. My eyebrows look perfect from 7 AM to 6 PM. Apply with a light hand, because it’s so concentrated!

Dr. Dennis Gross Extra Strength Anti Aging Beta Face Peel, $82.  If you can’t get a facial regularly, this is a great alternative. It’s strong enough to see brighter, smoother skin, but gentle enough to not cause any irritation.

Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs, $5.59. Maybelline has a great collection of nude lipsticks for every skin tone. Truffle Tease is great for deeper skin tones.

Dolce & Gabbana Intenseyes Black Intensity Mascara, $32. I love this mascara—no clumps or flakes. Just thick  beautiful lashes!

Royal Beauty Blender, $19.95. The beauty blender is my favorite way to apply foundation. I finally picked up another one in this really pretty purple color. I’ll take anything that reminds me of spring!

Going for a girly, yet feminine and strong look at Kaleen, celebrity nail artist Pattie Yankee mixed two custom Patricia Yankee Nail Lacquers, a taupe using ¾ of her Flesh shade and ¼ Cornerstone and a pink where she applied one coat of Love then a coat of Veil. Using her Inspire Nails in Clear Almond, she adhered to models’ nails and then filed into a rounded point

With the “lyrical abstraction” inspired collection, Pattie collaborated with the Delpozo design team to create a striking, yet simplistic nail. “We wanted the models to be able to see the gorgeous pieces they were wearing,” says Yankee, “with the mirrored nails, we were able to achieve that.” Yankee and her team applied glue tabs to the back of the press on nails and adhered them to the models. The nails were then filed down to a natural length with a rounded shape.

Katie Jane Hughes, butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador, applied butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in The Black Knight to the tips of the press on nails. She then applied butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Diamond Geezer at the base of the nail to meet up with the black at the tips. Katie used Nail Lacquer in Stardust and the new Nail Lacquer in Anorak, a black, white and silver chunky glitter overcoat (available in March 2014) over the entire nail. While the nails were still wet, Katie completed the look by applying holographic, diamond-shaped glitter to the tip of the nails.

Katie applied butter LONDON Nail Foundation as a base followed by butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Union Jack Black. She then used a thin striping brush to create the tweed effect, layering various Nail Lacquer shades onto the nail – both vertically and horizontally. Katie finished the look with butter LONDON’s P.D. Quick Topcoat. Shades used: butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Billy No Mates, Stag Do, Blagger, British Racing Green and Pearly Queen.

meandjayme1 edit An Evening of Macaroons and Moët with Make Up For Ever: The Unveiling of the New HD Blush and Pressed Powder

What’s better than a night out with indulging in macaroons and Moët? Playing with makeup while doing it!

Lucky me was invited to check out MAKE UP FOR EVER’s unveiling of their new HD Blush and Pressed Powder at their boutique at the King of Prussia Mall.

The HD Blush ($26, Sephora.com) in itself is amazing–a light weight cream blush that blends effortlessly into the skin for a flawless finish. It comes in 16 shades that range from light to medium to tan to deep—booth with cool and warm undertones. Since I like peachy undertones, I was given #315 to try.

One of the great things about MAKE UP FOR EVER is that they are very into educating consumers on how to use their product. Jayme, the lead makeup artist at the King of Prussia boutique, showed me the new technique to apply the HD Blush called the “Figure Eight”. After applying product to the angled end of the 158 Double Ended Sculpting Brush ($53, sephora.com), start at the top of your cheekbone by your hairline and work your way to the apple of your cheek in the formation of an 8. Easy breezy for a classic blush application.

Also, new in the HD collection is the HD Pressed Powder ($36, sephora.com). It’s great for reducing fine lines and blurring out blemishes. Great for touch ups through out the day, it zaps any sign of oil.  Jayme showed me how to apply this using the 124 Powder Kabuki Brush ($52, sephora.com) using a press and roll technique.

I had such a great time learning more about the brand, talking to the artists and sampling the products. I even  got a chance to finally try their popular HD Invisible Cover Foundation (matched to #153), that has developed its own cult following.  And on my list to do is attend one of their MAKE UP MASTERY classes offered every Monday at MAKE UP FOR EVER boutiques. Each class is only $25 for a 90 minute class. Check out details at your local MUFE boutique!
